Kean University Softball: Thrilling Split Against Drew in High-Stakes Showdown!

Union, N.J. (4/3/25) – The Kean University softball team recently faced off against Drew University, resulting in a split in their non-conference games.

Due to poor field conditions in Madison, the games were relocated to Cougar Field.

Game One – Kean 7, Drew 1

How It Went Down:

The first game was closely contested until Kylie Petak hit a leadoff home run in the fifth inning, breaking the tie. The Cougars went on to further secure their lead with two more runs in the sixth, thanks to a hit from Maya Thompson.

In the seventh inning, Kean surged ahead with a pair of RBI singles—one from Andee Perseponko and another from Thompson. Drew managed to avoid a shutout with a solo homer from Teagan Bradley late in the game.

• Perseponko was a standout player, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
• Thompson added to the team’s success with a 2-for-4 performance, driving in three runs.

Game Two – Drew 9, Kean 1

In the second game, Kean scored first with a run from Samantha Raymond, who brought Perseponko home after her double. However, Drew responded powerfully, scoring nine runs in the third inning. This included a three-run homer by Olivia Magliacano, following her own double earlier in the inning.

Game Stats:

• Kaitlynne Streets was impressive on the mound for Drew, limiting Kean to just two hits over five innings.

Kean will face The College of New Jersey this Friday. The schedule was adjusted due to expected weather changes on Saturday.
