Allen and Harbour met in 2019 and tied the knot in 2020, prompting her to relocate with her daughters to New York. In her song “Tennis,” she reflects on the terms of their arrangement—emphasizing discretion and that any affairs should be with strangers. The song also touches on a moment of discomfort when a notification from someone named Madeline popped up on Harbour’s phone.

Allen believes we live in a time where the definition of intimacy is evolving. Many young women today may not see marriage or long-term relationships as appealing. “People from my parents’ generation often stayed together and were unhappy,” she remarked, portraying a shift in how relationships are viewed. “But now, we have choices.”

Despite her public life, she admits no one truly understood her struggles during the album’s creation. “I got into the studio, cried for two hours, and then said, ‘Let’s make some music,’” she shared.

She also acknowledges the blend of truth and artistic expression in her music. “I can’t say it’s all fact, but definitely, experiences from my relationship made it into the album,” she said.
