New Jersey Devils Update

Nico Hischier is likely to return for the game against the Dallas Stars on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET. “The plan is to play tomorrow,” he mentioned after practice. Hischier feels better and is excited to get back on the ice.

He was placed on injured reserve on February 6, missing six games due to an oblique injury. This week, Hischier has participated in all three practices, which is a good sign for his return.

Coach Sheldon Keefe noted, “We need to assess where he’s at.” The team has a busy schedule ahead with a game against the Nashville Predators on Sunday, making it crucial to keep medical staff in the loop about Hischier’s status.

In addition, Jack Hughes may also play on Saturday. He’s just returned from competing with Team USA in the Four Nations Face-Off final. Keefe said he hasn’t spoken to Hughes yet but plans to check in later.

Goalie Jacob Markstrom, who has been sidelined with a sprained MCL, is making progress. He participated in a goalie session as he prepares to return from his injury. “He’s not close to playing yet,” Keefe said, “but he’s on his way to being ready for full practices.”
