RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina officials are sounding the alarm as the National Weather Service has issued a rare Level 4 Moderate Risk for severe weather across parts of the state.
The WECT First Alert Weather Team has raised concerns about damaging winds, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes. This warning is particularly serious; a Level 4 designation is uncommon for North Carolina.
Emergency Management Director Will Ray emphasized the importance of having a safety plan in place. “While severe weather is a reality we deal with, a Level 4 risk is something we don’t often see,” he stated. “It’s crucial for everyone to be prepared.”
Governor Josh Stein echoed these sentiments and encouraged residents to take proactive measures. “Make sure your emergency alerts are turned on. Have a safety plan to protect yourself and your family,” he advised.

- Central North Carolina — Level 4 Moderate Risk
- Eastern North Carolina and the foothills — Level 3 Enhanced Risk
- Mountain areas — Level 2 Slight Risk
