Another free-to-play multiplayer game is set to shut down this year. This time, it’s a sci-fi strategy game called Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula, originally released for the PS4 in 2024.
Developer Parallel Space Inc. announced that the PS4 and Xbox versions will close on October 1. They explained that maintaining the console versions was straining their small team’s resources. In a statement, they said, “We are forced to choose between keeping console versions up to date or providing frequent updates to our larger player base on other platforms.”
While console players are losing access, Hades’ Star: Dark Nebula will still be available on Steam and mobile devices. Players can transfer their console progress until the shutdown. Those who want to recover their accounts after October 1 can potentially do so by contacting the developer’s support.
To ease the transition, the developer is offering 1,000 Crystals, the game’s premium currency, to players who created their accounts before August 21 and linked them to mobile or Steam. There may be additional rewards for those who purchased Crystal Packs while playing only on consoles.
This change reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry. Many titles are moving away from older consoles to focus on more active platforms. For example, PUBG Studios recently announced it will stop supporting legacy versions of its popular battle royale game, PUBG: Battlegrounds.
