Last year, Jordan Tkacsik was exploring his friend Paul Bartlett’s sports memorabilia shop when he spotted something strange in the Pokémon collection. It was a Flamin’ Hot Cheeto shaped just like Charizard, a famous Pokémon known for its dragon-like appearance. Encased in a small plastic box that resembled a Q-Tip holder, this cheesy snack was no ordinary treat; it had a name: Cheetozard.
Although Jordan wasn’t a big Pokémon fan, he realized this quirky item was special, especially to Paul, who owns 1st and Goal Collectibles in Canton, Georgia. He decided to create a new display case for Cheetozard. “I made it my mission to see if I could do it,” he said.
Little did Jordan know that Cheetozard was on its way to becoming a globally recognized sensation.
Recently, during an auction, the Cheeto sold for an astonishing $72,000, which climbed to nearly $90,000 with fees. Goldin Auctions, which handled the sale, didn’t reveal the identities of the buyer or seller, citing confidentiality. In a world where even a banana taped to a wall can sell for $6.2 million, a Pokémon-shaped Cheeto fetching a mere five figures might actually seem like a steal!
This unique blend of food and fandom highlights how collectibles, no matter how peculiar, can find their way into the spotlight—and maybe even into our hearts.
