Rising Waves of Protests Across the U.S.: Citizens Unite Against Trump’s Mass Deportation Policies

NEW YORK — “ICE out of New York!” This chant echoed through the streets as thousands gathered near the city’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office. Jeanet, a 19-year-old protester, shared her motivation for attending. “There are many voices in my community that can’t be here today out of fear of what the administration is doing,” she said. Flashbacks of past trauma motivated some attendees, like Paula Lopez, 66, who recounted her own experience of being arrested by immigration agents in 1980. “It hurts me to see families being separated because I lived that. We come here to work and to progress — it’s not fair,” she said, speaking in Spanish.

Other protesters shared similar sentiments. Arfraz, from Queens, remembered the impact when ICE took a family member years ago. “They can’t necessarily show up to rallies because they might get picked up by ICE, so those of us who can stand up have a responsibility to do it,” he said, also choosing to remain anonymous for safety reasons.
