Say Goodbye to Nintendo Switch’s Awesome Gold Points Program: What You Need to Know!

Nintendo just announced that it will stop offering Gold Points starting March 24. This loyalty program rewarded players with points when they bought games, both physical and digital. Those points could be used for discounts on future purchases. However, with the upcoming (but still unconfirmed) Switch 2, Gold Points will soon be a thing of the past.

The Gold Points program was a great perk. Players earned back 5% of their spending as points, which they could later use for discounts. For example, if you bought a game for $60, you’d get $3 back. This incentive made shopping on the Nintendo eStore feel more rewarding than offers from competitors like Microsoft or Sony.

It’s strange that Nintendo is ending this program. You will still be able to use any Gold Points you already have until March 24, 2026, and you can earn points on purchases until March 24, 2025. Plus, if you buy physical games before the deadline, you can still redeem them after March 24.

We don’t know yet if Gold Points will work with games for the new Switch 2. Nintendo has been contacted for more details.

Nintendo’s official announcement mentions, “We sincerely thank you for using the My Nintendo rewards program and apologize for any inconvenience,” but it feels like a corporate decision rather than something unavoidable.

Additionally, the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers won’t apply to Switch 2 titles. This program allowed Nintendo Switch Online users to buy two popular games at a discounted rate.

This change seems to come just before the expected launch of the Switch 2, likely in May or June. However, it’s odd that Nintendo is making this move so soon, especially since the original Switch will continue to receive new games for years.

It’s possible that Nintendo plans to introduce a new loyalty program for the Switch 2 but hasn’t revealed it yet. If past Switch users don’t benefit, it could be disappointing for many. It’s also unusual for these decisions to happen before the launch of a new console. If Nintendo has something better in mind, they’ve certainly left fans guessing.
