Exciting News! Netflix is bringing Stephen King’s famous novel Cujo back to life as a new movie. Roy Lee will be producing, and the hunt for writers is starting right away.
Published in 1981, Cujo tells the story of a once-friendly St. Bernard who becomes a terrifying beast after being bitten by a rabid bat. In the original 1983 film, Dee Wallace plays a mother fighting to protect her son from this now-dangerous dog. Trapped in their car under the scorching sun, they face a terrifying choice: confront the rabid hound or risk succumbing to heatstroke.
This adaptation is yet another success from King’s impressive collection of thriller novels, many of which have been turned into popular films.
Stephen King isn’t slowing down. His latest work, Never Flinch, is on the way, and he’s also crafting a third book in the Talisman series. Recently, fans enjoyed the adaptation of his short story The Monkey directed by Osgood Perkins. More adaptations are on the horizon, including The Long Walk directed by Francis Lawrence, The Running Man from Edgar Wright starring Glen Powell, and the prequel to It, titled Welcome to Derry, directed by Andy Muschietti. The adaptations don’t stop there; The Institute is being directed by Jack Bender, and Mike Flanagan is set to adapt Carrie into a series.
King’s repertoire continues to grow, with adaptations of his newer novels like Fairy Tale helmed by Paul Greengrass and The Life of Chuck with Flanagan also in development.
Stephen King is represented by Rand Holston Management and Gang Tyre.
