Did you know that a recent survey from Yale University shows that 73% of Americans believe global warming is real? That’s a significant majority! Only 14% disagree. Among those who are concerned, 64% are ‘somewhat worried’ about its impacts, while 28% are ‘very worried.’

Interestingly, 60% of respondents think that human activities are the main cause of global warming. Meanwhile, 28% attribute it to natural changes in the environment. This highlights a growing awareness of the role humans play in climate change.

So, how do Americans believe global warming will affect them? About 48% feel that the U.S. population is already suffering from its effects. Additionally, 49% say they have experienced these impacts in their own lives.

Many Americans are particularly concerned about how global warming will affect plants and animals (70%), the world’s poor (68%), and people in developed countries (68%). In fact, 63% believe it will harm residents in the U.S., while 53% worry about their community and 51% about their own families. Also, 46% feel personally threatened by global warming.

Extreme weather events are another key concern. About 56% believe that their community will face a high or moderate risk of extreme weather in the next decade. Air pollution tops the list of environmental worries, with 75% of respondents fearing its effects. Other significant concerns include power outages (74%), water pollution (74%), drought (70%), extreme heat (69%), and agricultural pests and diseases (66%).

In response to these challenges, some Americans are even considering relocation, with 11% contemplating moving as a result of climate change.

Consumer activism is on the rise too. Around 30% of Americans have chosen to buy from companies that are taking steps to reduce global warming. Conversely, about 26% have avoided buying from companies that harm the planet.

But how much is global warming being discussed in everyday conversations? Surprisingly, 62% of Americans say they rarely or never talk about it with friends or family. Only 38% discuss it occasionally or often.

When it comes to media coverage, nearly 47% of Americans encounter news about global warming at least monthly. However, only 27% hear about it on social media with the same frequency. Alarmingly, 8% have never heard about global warming in any media. Real-life discussions are even scarcer, with only 20% reporting regular conversations about climate change in their circles.
