The Cleveland Browns have made a strategic move by acquiring veteran left tackle Cam Robinson from the Houston Texans. According to reports from The Athletic, the trade involves swapping late-round draft picks. Robinson, who signed a one-year deal worth $10.75 million with Houston earlier this year, has had a rocky start, making only one start in four games.
Robinson, a second-round draft pick from 2017, is expected to step in as the starter at left tackle for the Browns. The team has struggled with their offensive line, trying out four different combinations over just four games. In their recent loss to Detroit, KT Leveston became the latest to take on this role after several changes, including injuries.
The Browns didn’t draft any offensive linemen this past April, and their only 2024 draft pick for the position, Zak Zinter, hasn’t played yet. This has pushed the team to look for reliable options quickly. Leveston was brought in from a previous trade, and last week, the Browns signed tackle Thayer Munford from the New England Patriots’ practice squad.
Robinson has a solid background, starting in 102 games throughout his career. Before joining the Texans, he played seven seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and even wrapped up last season as the Minnesota Vikings’ starting left tackle. The Browns, who currently hold a 1-3 record, are set to face the 2-2 Vikings in London next.
The Texans are moving ahead with rookie Aireontae Ersery at left tackle, making Robinson an extra asset they didn’t need. The Browns, however, will handle the remaining $2 million of his base salary from his Texans deal.
