ST. GEORGE, Utah — Sadly, a student at Utah Tech University lost his life after falling from a fifth-floor balcony at Campus View Suites II. The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday. The victim, Jordon Konanui-Kong, a 22-year-old freshman, was known to friends as “Don.” Despite being rushed to St. George Regional Hospital, he did not survive his injuries.
In response to this tragedy, Utah Tech University expressed its deep sorrow, stating, “His presence will be deeply missed on campus.” The university’s community is currently supporting one another through this challenging time.
To assist those affected, mental health professionals are available at the Booth Wellness Center. Students, faculty, and staff can also use the SafeUT app and the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling 988 for immediate help.
This incident is particularly heartbreaking, as it mirrors a similar tragedy less than three years ago, when another student also died after falling from a balcony in the same building.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly 1 in 5 adults experience mental illness each year. This statistic underscores the importance of mental health resources, especially in close-knit communities like universities.
