CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina baseball team showcased impressive offense and strong pitching in a solid 9-1 win over South Carolina at Truist Field.
Ranked No. 13, the Tar Heels (21-4-1) were initially in a close matchup, but a six-run explosion in the seventh inning put the game out of reach. UNC pitchers achieved an outstanding 12 strikeouts, marking the eighth time this season they’ve hit double digits in punchouts.

Starter Boston Flannery set the tone with 3.1 innings of solid work. He matched his career high with five strikeouts, giving up just one hit and three runs, including three walks. Then came Walker McDuffie, who took the mound next and impressed even more. In 2.2 innings, he allowed only one hit and struck out seven out of the nine batters he faced, tying his career high as well.

South Carolina took a brief lead with an RBI single in the first inning. However, Gavin Gallaher quickly turned the tables, hitting a 367-foot home run that put Carolina ahead 2-1. This was Gallaher’s fifth home run of the season, continuing his impressive performance this year.
For the next five innings, both teams remained relatively quiet until the Tar Heels came alive in the seventh. With a combination of wild pitches, a double, and crucial singles, they scored six runs, sealing the Gamecocks’ fate.
