Universal Boss Hails Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ as a ‘Visionary Masterpiece’ at CinemaCon

Christopher Nolan wasn’t at CinemaCon this year. He’s busy working on his upcoming film, The Odyssey. However, his name was still in the spotlight.

During Universal Pictures’ presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Jim Orr, the studio’s president of domestic theatrical distribution, praised Nolan’s vision for the movie. He called it a “once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece” that Homer would be proud of.

Universal describes the film as a “mythic action epic” shot globally using cutting-edge IMAX technology. It will bring Homer’s classic saga to IMAX screens for the first time and is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.

Orr also highlighted the impressive cast Nolan has put together. The film features stars like Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson. This ensemble is expected to attract a wide audience, bringing in fans from various genres.

At the heart of The Odyssey is the tale of King Odysseus, played by Damon. His ten-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War is filled with challenges, including encounters with mythical creatures and divine interventions. Odysseus’ wife and son also have their struggles as they deal with suitors vying for the throne.

This film marks Nolan’s follow-up to his acclaimed film, Oppenheimer, which won Best Picture. It showcases his continued effort to blend grand storytelling with innovative cinematic techniques.
