Mark Cerny, the mastermind behind the PS5, recently revealed that the PS5 Pro will be getting an upgrade to its PSSR feature next year. This upgrade aims to provide performance akin to AMD’s FSR 4 upscaling technology. This enhancement arises from Sony’s partnership with AMD, which is also working on future features for the PS6 under Project Amethyst.
According to Cerny, more improvements are in the works for 2025. He mentioned that the priority is to refine the current PSSR and assist external developers in integrating it. The goal for next year is to roll out an upscaler that matches the performance of FSR 4 for PS5 Pro’s 2026 games. Cerny noted, “Implementing this feature is ambitious and requires a lot of time, which is why it’s not yet available.”
This improved PSSR upscaler is a significant outcome of Sony and AMD’s collaboration. Cerny called the early results “excellent” and emphasized that it offers a sharper image than the existing PSSR. “I’m very proud of our joint team’s efforts!” he added.
