Unlock Excitement: Borderlands 4’s First DLC Now Available for Free!

Happy holidays! Great news for Borderlands 4 fans: the first DLC, Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, is now free for all players. Gearbox decided to make this move due to the extra time spent fixing bugs and performance issues post-launch. Originally, the DLC was set to be paywalled, but with the game needing so many updates, the plan changed.

When Borderlands 4 launched in September, it received praise for its expansive world, refined gunplay, and enhanced co-op experience. Despite this, many players encountered bugs, particularly on PC and console. According to a report from Gearbox, the focus on fixing these issues delayed the first DLC’s release.

On November 20, Gearbox announced the shift: “With the continued efforts to improve the Borderlands 4 experience, the team ran out of time to pack as much mayhem into the Bounty Pack 1 as originally planned,” they shared. As a gesture of goodwill, they offered the DLC free to all players.

In this new content, players join the rebel leader Rush in a quest to defeat the holiday-hating Minister Screw. The DLC features a series of missions celebrating the season, filled with festive gifts and snowy landscapes. Players can also look forward to new cosmetic items, weapons, and a Vault Card with fresh rewards.

To access the DLC, simply update your game and check for a large gift-wrapped present in any major hub.

Looking ahead, Borderlands 4 will introduce two larger expansions and new characters next year. There’s also a significant gameplay update arriving soon, which will improve endgame content by allowing players to jump into missions without replaying unnecessary parts. This change is expected to make grinding for loot much more enjoyable.

As of December 2023, fan discussions on platforms like Reddit reveal excitement over the free DLC and potential future expansions. Many players are hopeful that Gearbox will continue to prioritize the player experience.

In a gaming landscape where players often pay high prices for expansions, Gearbox’s decision stands out. This move could reshape how game companies approach DLC, proving that listening to the community is just as important as delivering content.
