Donegal County Council is excited to announce that applications for funding under Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme will open on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The Community Climate Action Programme (CCAP) is all about empowering communities—both small and large—to take meaningful climate action. Partnering with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Donegal County Council will offer funding for projects that focus on local climate initiatives.
The main goal of the CCAP? To help create sustainable, low-carbon communities that contribute to national climate and energy targets.
This program is open to not-for-profit groups and clubs eager to make a positive change. It can cover 100% of eligible project costs, with various funding tiers available:
- Small projects under €20,000
- Medium projects from €20,000 to €50,000
- Large projects from €50,000 to €100,000
To qualify, projects must produce direct benefits for the environment, like reducing greenhouse gas emissions or helping communities adapt to climate change.
Here are the five key themes for project proposals:
1. Community & Energy
Examples include retrofitting buildings (like adding insulation or energy-efficient windows), installing solar panels, or upgrading to LED lighting.
2. Sustainable Travel
This could mean setting up electric vehicle charging stations, creating bike racks, or enhancing safe routes for cyclists.
3. Food and Waste
Possible projects may involve community gardens or establishing food banks to reduce waste and promote local food access.
4. Shopping and Recycling
Think about community repair hubs or swap shops to encourage recycling and reduce single-use plastics.
5. Local Climate and Environmental Action
Projects might focus on creating mini forests or pollinator gardens—these nature-based solutions help with climate resilience.
According to a recent survey by Climate Action Network, nearly 70% of community members are eager to get involved in local climate initiatives. This enthusiasm reflects a growing understanding of our collective responsibility to tackle climate change.

Remember, the closing date for applications is December 22, 2025. Let’s work together to make our communities greener!
