New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) – Norway and India are teaming up to tackle climate change, despite being on opposite sides of the globe. Tom Rådhal, Secretary General of Norway’s Ministry of Climate and Environment, shared insights during a recent interview.
Rådhal emphasized that collaboration between the two nations is vital in today’s uncertain world. “It’s important for a small European nation and a large Asian one to share ideas on environmental issues,” he noted. His recent visit to India highlighted how well their cooperation works, particularly on tangible projects.
Although Norway and India have different backgrounds, Rådhal believes they can support each other’s environmental goals. He pointed out the vast potential for bilateral cooperation in various areas, especially renewable energy.
In fact, renewable energy is a key focus for Norway. Rådhal mentioned how Norway excels in green technologies, which has been a hot topic during discussions in India. He reflected on the significant advancements made in the renewable sector over the past decade since his last visit.
Looking ahead, Rådhal talked about Norway’s priorities for the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP), the main decision-making body of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Upholding the Paris Agreement’s target of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius is crucial. He stressed that lowering ambitions will lead to bigger problems, especially following the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement.
Rådhal believes that countries like Norway and India can work together effectively to meet environmental challenges. Their shared goals present a unique opportunity for meaningful cooperation.
As climate concerns grow globally, partnerships like this may provide a roadmap for others. Countries are increasingly recognizing that teamwork is essential in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
