Unlocking Insights: Bharat Space Conclave 2026 Experts Advocate for Breaking Down Data Silos

The Bharat Space Conclave 2026 took place in New Delhi, showcasing India’s growing space ecosystem. Hosted by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and IN-SPACe, this event focused on the crucial overlaps between technology, policy, and industry in space.

Srikant Sastri, head of the Geospatial Data Promotion and Development Committee, highlighted the challenge of data stuck in silos. “If we break these silos, we can unlock tremendous innovation,” he said. His comments emphasize the importance of integrating data to fuel creativity and progress.

India’s National Geospatial Policy, introduced in 2022, aims to democratize access to geospatial data, promoting a culture of openness that benefits new startups and private sectors. Sanjay Nekkanti, Co-Chair of FICCI’s Space and Geospatial Applications Committee, pointed out the potential for India to contribute to global space efforts as it builds its capabilities.

One key moment was the release of the report titled ‘Legal Frontiers of Outer Space: International Norms and India’s Regulatory Evolution.’ This report outlines the changing legal landscape of India’s space sector, signaling a commitment to involving private players in future missions. The Indian Space Policy 2023 will leverage space technologies to tackle national challenges in agriculture, healthcare, and education.

Recent data supports this direction. According to a survey by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), 85% of Indian businesses believe increased private sector participation in space can lead to better public services. This reflects a broader trend in how countries are integrating private capabilities in space exploration and technology.

Overall, the Bharat Space Conclave represents a critical step towards a more collaborative and innovative space industry in India. As the country navigates this new frontier, it’s clear that data integration and private sector involvement will play key roles in shaping the future.
