Exciting Performances at the Gouge Center

AUBURN — The Jay and Susie Gouge Performing Arts Center at Auburn University is set to host two exciting shows this January: the Gryphon Trio and Ballet Hispánico.

The Gryphon Trio
Mark your calendars for Thursday, January 23, at 7 p.m.! The Gryphon Trio will perform at Woltosz Theatre. Known for their dynamic and refined performances, they have been captivating audiences worldwide for 25 years.

This talented trio, with a diverse repertoire ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary works, is dedicated to redefining chamber music. As the ensemble-in-residence at Music Toronto for over a decade, they tour extensively across North America and Europe. They have commissioned over 80 new works from both established and emerging composers, enriching the chamber music landscape.

The Gryphon Trio’s acclaimed recordings showcase a variety of composers, including Haydn, Mozart, and Piazzolla. Their 2004 album, featuring works by leading Canadian composers, won a Juno Award, highlighting their impact on the music scene.

Ballet Hispánico
Join us on Thursday, January 30, for Ballet Hispánico, America’s leading Latino dance organization. Their performance at Woltosz Theatre is part of the 2024-2025 Dance & Movement Series.

For 50 years, Ballet Hispánico has been connecting communities through innovative dance. Founded by Tina Ramirez, who received the National Medal of Arts, the organization aims to celebrate and explore Latino cultures. Today, under the leadership of Eduardo Vilaro, Ballet Hispánico focuses on social equity and cultural identity through their work.

The highlight of their performance will be CARMEN.maquia, a modern take on Bizet’s classic, featuring a blend of contemporary dance with traditional Spanish elements like the paso doble and flamenco.

Additionally, leading up to their performance, Ballet Hispánico will host free master classes and workshops on January 27 and 28. Registration is required for these engaging sessions.
