Urgent Search Efforts: Specialized U.S. Navy Dive Team and Engineers Unite to Find 4 Missing Soldiers in Lithuania

A U.S. Navy dive team and Polish engineers have joined forces in Lithuania to help recover four missing U.S. soldiers. They disappeared during a training exercise near Pabradė, close to the border with Belarus. Their armored vehicle, the M88A2 Hercules, was discovered submerged under about 15 feet of water and muddy silt.

"We’re committed to using every available resource to find our missing soldiers," said Maj. Gen. Curtis Taylor, leader of the 1st Armored Division. The recovery operation will involve removing water and mud from the site, stabilizing the ground for heavy equipment, and preparing for dive operations.

The divers from the U.S. Navy’s Task Force 68, who have come from Rota, Spain, will play a key role.
