UT San Antonio Celebrates Distinguished Honor Roll Recognition for Fostering a Transfer-Receptive Culture

The nonprofit Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society has recognized The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) as part of its 2025 Transfer Honor Roll. This prestigious list includes just 251 colleges across the nation that excel in supporting transfer students—those who transfer from one institution to another after high school.

The selection is based on detailed data from the National Student Clearinghouse, which reviewed information from over 1,000 universities. Belinda Saldaña Harmon, interim executive director of Community Outreach and Recruitment at UTSA, highlights the significance of transfer students, noting they make up about 40% of the university’s student body.

“To build a welcoming environment, collaboration across campus is essential,” she said. UTSA fosters a culture that supports these students through its Transfer and Transition Student Success Services office. This team works closely with transfer recruitment specialists to ensure that students feel supported throughout their journey, from the initial transfer process to graduation.

In the 2024-25 academic year, nearly 3,000 transfer students enrolled at UTSA. Interestingly, they enjoy a high bachelor’s degree completion rate of 78.3%. It’s anticipated that even more transfer students will join in Fall 2025.

Phi Theta Kappa, established in 1918, recognizes academic excellence while promoting leadership and service among community and technical college students. With over 4.4 million members worldwide, the society plays a crucial role in enhancing education for those embarking on their college journey.

A recent survey reported that 67% of transfer students value universities that have tailored support services. This statistic emphasizes the importance of institutions like UTSA that prioritize transfer student success.

For those looking into higher education options, understanding how a university supports transfer students can make all the difference in ensuring a smoother academic transition.
