Bungie Confirms No Future Destiny 2 Expansion Crossovers Following Star Wars-Themed Renegades: What This Means for Fans

Bungie has decided not to create more full expansions for Destiny 2 that cross over with other franchises after its recent release, Renegades, inspired by Star Wars.

Over the years, Destiny 2 has launched numerous cosmetics based on popular games and media, like Fortnite, The Witcher, and even Mass Effect. These collaborations allowed players to acquire themed items but mostly existed as temporary additions in the Eververse store.

This changed with Renegades, which marked Destiny 2’s most ambitious crossover yet. Bungie partnered with Lucasfilm Games to create an expansion that embraced Star Wars themes, complete with unique visuals and weapons like the Praxic Blade. Players experienced a mix of space exploration and western-style narratives.

However, this grand collaboration seems to be a one-off. Bungie’s studio explained to Forbes’ Paul Tassi that they do not have plans for other full-scale expansions like Renegades. While players can expect themed armor and emotes in the future, those will not come with the extensive gameplay or plot of a full expansion.

In an online discussion, players speculated if future expansions might include more crossover themes, but Tassi confirmed that Bungie is sticking to its original universe for upcoming expansions. Instead, Bungie will focus on selling themed cosmetics, ensuring that players can still enjoy these elements, albeit in a limited capacity. There’s even buzz about Destiny 2 players receiving new gear linked to Bungie’s upcoming game, Marathon.

Tyson Green, Destiny 2’s game director, acknowledged some challenges the game faced in recent months. He shared insights about player preferences, stating that a simple ranking system isn’t enough anymore. Players want more substantial rewards and experiences. With Destiny 3 reportedly beginning early development, the focus shifts towards evolving the franchise.

Bungie’s decision has sparked mixed reactions among the player community. While some appreciate the emphasis on Destiny’s lore, others express disappointment over missing out on potential exciting collaborations. The balance between unique stories and crossover opportunities remains a hot topic among fans.
