NORTH TEXAS TENNIS WINS BIG AGAINST SFA
The UNT tennis team bounced back with a strong performance against SFA, winning 5-2 at the Waranch Tennis Complex. After a tough loss in doubles, the team dominated in singles with five wins.
Head coach Amanda Stone praised her team’s resilience. “It was a gritty win. SFA kept the pressure on, but we didn’t fold. We learned a lot today,” she said. “I’m proud of how we fought back.”
Lilly Schultz and Lou Chalard started the match with a solid 6-2 win in doubles. However, SFA came back to win the other two doubles matches, taking the early lead.
In singles, Chalard stood out again, winning her match quickly after her opponent retired. Carolina Laydner pulled UNT even by winning her match decisively, paving the way for a comeback.
Marina Adati made a striking recovery, coming back from a 5-2 deficit in the first set, showcasing her determination with a 7-6, 6-1 victory, putting UNT ahead 3-2.
The spotlight then turned to two freshmen, Giulianna Ciangherotti and Pia Petelinsek. Both had tough starts but fought hard to win their matches. Ciangherotti sealed the victory for UNT, while Petelinsek closed out the match with a strong comeback, winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
With this win, North Texas improved to 3-2 overall, bouncing back from a tough start.
