About Marigold

Marigold opened in late February as the seventh restaurant from Crown Restaurant Group. Located in the former Macy’s building near Fountain Square, it brings together British and Indian cuisine in a beautifully designed space with a feminine flair.

Co-owner Haley Nutter-Sitek wanted to create a welcoming atmosphere to balance the male-dominated dining scene nearby. With its floral wallpaper and elegant decor, Marigold aims to be a softer option on Fifth Street. The large mural of a woman’s profile adds a unique touch that draws attention.

One standout design detail is the gold-rimmed china plates on each table, sourced from various antique shops and thrift stores.

Dining Experience at Marigold

The restaurant is run by an all-female team, including Chef Megan Yung. Marigold’s menu was developed quickly, taking less than eight months, after pivoting from a different project. The food features British classics like meat pies and fish and chips, alongside Indian curries. Diners can also enjoy a selection of beers from the UK, Germany, and Belgium.

3CDC recognizes Marigold for its attention to detail in both its food and ambiance. Spokesperson Joe Rudemiller highlighted how the restaurant’s thoughtful design enhances the dining experience.

Inside Marigold: Inspired by the Past

The interior reflects the Arts and Crafts movement, celebrating craftsmanship and decorative details from the late 19th century. Vikki Nutter led the design, which features rich wood flooring, brass railings, and beautiful upholstery that creates a cozy pub-like feel.

Notes of the past can be seen throughout the restaurant. The floral wallpaper is reminiscent of the famous designs by poet and artist William Morris, inspiring the restaurant’s name. Marigolds are symbols of joy and prosperity, connecting to the restaurant’s theme.

A Calm Yet Colorful Atmosphere

The main dining area is adorned in a deep, muted forest green, which sets a calming mood. This rich color is complemented by subtle gold accents, contributing to the elegant environment.

A few local elements that enhance Marigold’s charm include:

• Pews from the former Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church, redesigned as booths.
• Custom furniture from West End-based furniture maker Orange Chair.
• Fifteen-foot-long green velvet drapes from Sundry Shop.
• Floor-to-ceiling shelving filled with spices and decor from The Native One.

Marigold is open from Tuesday to Thursday, 4:30-10:30 p.m., and Friday to Saturday, 4:30-11 p.m. Soon, it will expand its hours to seven days a week.
