The Green Bay Packers have signed guard Aaron Banks to a four-year deal worth $77 million, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
After spending his first year as a backup, Banks stepped up to become a key starter for the San Francisco 49ers. Over the last three seasons, he played mainly at left guard.
Since taking on the starting role in 2022, Banks has played in 43 games. He has impressive stats, boasting a pass block win rate of 89.9% and a run block win rate of 66.5%. In 2024, he achieved his best performance with a pass win rate of 91.7% and a run win rate of 69%. However, he did give up three sacks that season.
The Packers are looking to make some changes to their offensive line. Center Josh Myers is unlikely to return, so they might shift guards Elgton Jenkins or Sean Rhyan to center. Since Banks has mostly played at left guard, this could mean moving Jenkins to center. The Packers also want to find a spot for 2024 first-round pick, Jordan Morgan, on the offensive line.
Banks, who is 27, was a second-round pick from Notre Dame in 2021. He has faced some injuries, including a concussion and knee and toe problems, which caused him to miss games. He ended the 2024 season on injured reserve due to a knee issue, but it didn’t require surgery, according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
