DeSales University Softball: Day Two Spring Trip Highlights with Hard-Fought Split!

Kissimmee, FL (March 10, 2025) – The DeSales University softball team faced a mixed bag on day two of their Florida trip. They won the first game against Otterbein University 12-3 but lost to Utica College, 12-4.

Game One: DeSales Wins 12-3

In the first game, DeSales fell behind 1-0 early. However, in the bottom of the second inning, sophomore Meghan Sabo hit a two-run home run, putting them ahead 2-1.

They didn’t stop there. The Bulldogs scored three more runs in the third inning and took a strong 5-1 lead, thanks to a two-RBI single from senior Tori Kenney and another RBI single from Sabo.

Leading 5-2, DeSales added three runs in the fifth inning with another single from Sabo and a two-RBI single from senior Madison Kelly. They finished strong in the sixth inning, scoring four runs with two-RBI singles from juniors Ava Goodman and Shana Gugliandolo.

Kenney had an impressive game, going 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Sabo was 3-for-3, collecting four RBIs, while Gugliandolo finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Freshman Katie Sharkey and Kelly also contributed with two hits each.

Senior Rachel Lowry pitched a complete game, allowing three runs and striking out two batters to secure the win.

Game Two: DeSales Falls 4-12

In the second game, DeSales found themselves down 4-0 after two innings. Things changed in the top of the third when a three-run home run from Kinney tied the game at four.

Unfortunately, Utica retook the lead, scoring two unearned runs in the bottom of the third. They added three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to seal the victory.

Junior Riley Long took the loss, allowing three earned runs over 1.2 innings. Freshman Gianna Angermeier and Sharkey each had two hits in the defeat.

The Bulldogs have a day off before they return to action on Wednesday, where they will face PSU-Berks and Wheaton College (MA).
