PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Eating well is key to healing, according to Dr. Lu-Jean Feng, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and founder of FengClinic. She believes this concept, echoed by Hippocrates who said, “Let food be thy medicine,” is more important now than ever.
Dr. Feng sees serious issues with today’s food system. “We need a big change to promote health and prevent diseases,” she notes. Instead of just talking, she’s doing something about it.
To support her community, she created FengFit Foods, a line of nutritious, plant-based meals. These include soups, salads, dressings, and snacks, all designed to be rich in nutrients and low in inflammation.
Initially offered only to clinic patients and staff, FengFit Foods is now available to the public. You can find these healthy options in a vending machine at FengClinic or at local Heinen’s grocery stores in Pepper Pike, Chagrin Falls, and Bainbridge.
The meals focus on fresh ingredients: vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and fruits. They avoid animal products, refined sugars, and preservatives. Currently, salads are the top sellers, especially Dr. Feng’s Signature Salad, which features local hydroponic greens, chickpeas, edamame, and a delicious Apple Blossom Dressing.
Dr. Feng believes that good nutrition is crucial, especially after surgery. People who eat wholesome foods tend to heal faster compared to those consuming fatty or processed foods. “Opt for whole foods, vegetables, and clean protein,” she advises, recommending lean options like fish or low-fat cuts of beef.
In addition, she warns that certain substances, like wine and CBD, can increase bleeding during surgery. It’s wise to steer clear of them ahead of procedures.
As demand grows, FengFit Foods is expanding its operations. The company is opening a new kitchen in Solon, which will allow them to produce even more healthy meals.
