New Delhi: On September 23, 2025, Indian Railways made a big announcement for Punjab. They approved a new rail line from Rajpura to Mohali. This development will enhance rail connectivity in the Malwa region, linking it more directly to Chandigarh. Alongside this, a new Vande Bharat Express train connecting Firozpur to Delhi was also unveiled.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav emphasized the importance of this project. The new 18-kilometer line will cost Rs 443 crore. Residents have been asking for this connection since the 1960s, as the area was previously isolated from direct routes to the capital. Vaishnav also mentioned plans to redevelop the Chandigarh railway station, expected to be completed by 2026–27.
The Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week, excluding Wednesdays, stopping at key cities such as Bathinda, Dhuri, Patiala, and Ambala. This train promises to make travels quicker, smoother, and more comfortable, thanks to its modern design and upgraded features.
Recent trends show an increasing interest in comfortable and efficient modes of transportation. According to a survey by the Indian Railways, about 70% of passengers prefer high-speed trains over other modes of travel. This preference suggests that more projects like the Vande Bharat Express could be in the making, reflecting the changing needs of modern commuters.
In a recent social media conversation, many users expressed excitement about these announcements. Comments like “Finally, we have direct access to Chandigarh!” and “This train will save so much time” indicate a positive reception from the public.
Overall, these improvements not only reflect India’s push for better infrastructure but also respond to the long-standing needs of its citizens. As we see more advancements in rail travel, the hope remains that connectivity across the country will continue to strengthen.
