From Fashion to Rockets: How a Trump Ally Envisions a New Future for the Kennedy Center

Paolo Zampolli has been friends with Donald Trump for many years. Back in the 1990s, when Zampolli ran a modeling agency, he introduced Trump to Melania at a party. This connection blossomed into a marriage.

Now at 55, Zampolli is stepping into a new role. He is helping reshape the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Zampolli has been on the center’s board since his appointment by Trump during his first term. Recently, Trump made significant changes. He removed all board members appointed by Biden and elected himself as chairman.

The implications of these changes are still unfolding. Some artists have canceled performances, including the musical “Hamilton,” which decided not to tour at the center next year. Richard Grenell, the new president appointed by Trump, has mentioned plans for a grand celebration for Christmas.

In addition to these changes, Zampolli has big ideas for the center. He envisions launching art into space with Elon Musk’s support, hosting fashion shows by Valentino, and even opening a marina on the Potomac River along with a Cipriani restaurant.

“We need to make the Kennedy Center a destination,” Zampolli said in a recent interview. He believes that it has incredible potential for growth and creativity, aiming to draw people in with unique events and experiences.
