The Tennessee House of Representatives recently announced committee assignments for the 114th General Assembly. Notably, Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill-District 92) has been removed from the House Education Administration Committee and the K-12 Education Subcommittee, which he served on for four years.
In a conversation with The Tennessee Conservative, Warner expressed his disappointment. “Absolutely not,” he said when asked if he was returning to the education committee. “Starting my third term, I’ve been on every education committee, and this year I didn’t get a one.”
This year, Warner is assigned to the State and Local Government Committee, the Public Service Subcommittee, and a new Naming and Designating Committee. Many speculate that this shift is linked to his previous vocal stance on school choice vouchers.
With Governor Lee and House leaders aiming to pass the Education Freedom Act, dissent from committee members could hinder their efforts. Warner mentioned, “It’s just, you know, it’s the speaker’s choice. If that’s what they want to do, God bless ‘em.”
