The MBA program at Fuqua emphasizes a unique “Team Fuqua” culture built on six key principles. The one that resonates most with me is “Supportive Ambition.” I love seeing others succeed. It inspires me to help those around me achieve their goals, whether at work or in life.
Being a part of Team Fuqua means investing in my classmates’ success. It’s more than just academics or careers; it’s about caring for one another as whole people. I want to support my teammates in every way possible, ensuring we all thrive together.
One of the key reasons I chose Fuqua is the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE). This aligns perfectly with my goals of creating long-term social impact. I wanted a program that connects business skills with a commitment to doing good. Fuqua’s focus on using business for positive change really stood out to me.
My first impressions of Fuqua students and alumni have been overwhelmingly positive. During a visit for the MBA Workshop, I was skeptical about the Team Fuqua culture. But I quickly realized it’s genuine! Everyone I met showed sincere interest in supporting me. It helped me feel connected and eased my nerves about starting this new chapter.
I’ve noticed that Fuqua alumni are dedicated and involved. At the MBA Workshop, several alumni traveled from their high-level jobs to share their experiences and advice. This sense of community and commitment to helping each other is truly inspiring.
What excites me most at Fuqua is the opportunity to join the American Latinx Management Association (ALMA). I also plan to participate in Fuqua on Board, which will help me build strong connections in Durham.
One of my proudest accomplishments was my work as a program manager at EMERGE. I supported first-generation students in navigating their paths to selective universities. Serving as an advisor and mentor for students who needed guidance—just like I did—has been incredibly fulfilling.
Statistically, my efforts paid off. About 72% of the students I supported got into their first or second-choice universities, and 60% are on track to graduate college without debt. These results highlight the impact we can have together.
In the next two years at Fuqua, I hope to make the most of every opportunity. My goal is to learn, connect, and give back to the community. I know these years will be fast-paced, but I want to embrace every chance to learn something new, share different perspectives, and build lasting friendships—perhaps over a board game night!
For those looking to apply to Duke Fuqua, my best advice is to be true to yourself. Authenticity matters a lot. Take time to reflect on who you are and let that shine through, especially in your essays. Fuqua values your personal journey, so don’t just focus on your test scores or work experience—show who you truly are!
