Patriots Rally: Thrilling Weekend Recap – One Win, One Loss for George Mason University Athletics!
FAIRFAX, Va. – On Sunday, George Mason faced a mix of challenges. They lost to Ohio 2-1 but bounced back with a strong 4-2 win against Longwood.

Game 1: George Mason 1, Ohio 2
In their first match, sophomore Kylie Wilkerson stepped up as pitcher, throwing a complete game. She allowed two runs on three hits, with no walks and a season-high five strikeouts.

The game was tough for George Mason initially. They struggled to capitalize on their chances. In the second inning, they managed just one hit from Logan Pickford, who singled to right center but didn’t advance further.

Ohio scored their two runs in the third inning. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, they capitalized on a fielding error, which allowed them to take the lead. A triple from Westler followed, bringing the score to 2-0.

George Mason finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. With two hits and one error, Madi Sobota, Kamryn Inman, and Maya McGowan all contributed to narrow the gap to 2-1.

Game 2: George Mason 4, Longwood 2
In the second game, junior Harlowe Nigh started strong on the mound, pitching for four innings while giving up two runs and two hits.

The Patriots struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Elyssa DeRosa walked, setting the stage for Pickford’s two-run homer, putting George Mason ahead 2-0.

Longwood quickly responded, evening the score at 2-2 with a two-run home run from Miller.

In the second inning, Charlotte Montgomery walked, and Kaitlyn Bronowicz hit a double to give George Mason a 3-2 lead.

The Patriots added another run in the third inning when Pickford’s single helped score DeRosa.

Freshman Abbey Lane took over pitching duties in the fifth inning. She excelled, allowing no hits or runs, and secured her second save of the season.
