Three faculty members at the University of Toledo have earned prestigious titles for their outstanding work in teaching and research. The Board of Trustees recognized them on March 5, 2025, as Distinguished University Professors or Lecturers.
Distinguished University Professors
This year’s recipients are:
- Ellen Bolman Pullins – Professor of Marketing and Sales Management.
- Randall Ellingson – Chair of Photovoltaics in the Department of Physics.
- Michael Rees – Professor in Urology and Pathology at the College of Medicine.
Dr. Scott Molitor, interim provost, praised their impact on UToledo and their contributions to research, which have helped the university achieve a prestigious Carnegie R1 recognition.
Ellen Bolman Pullins
Pullins began her journey at UToledo in 1996 as an assistant professor. Over the years, she has helped grow the sales program and has shared her insights globally as a Fulbright Scholar. Her focus includes understanding customer behavior and improving sales techniques. Pullins expressed her gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging it as a reflection of the hard work put in by the entire academic community.
Randall Ellingson
Ellingson joined UToledo in 2008 and quickly made his mark in the field of photovoltaics. He has been pivotal in advancing solar energy technologies and has garnered significant grants and patents for his research. He shared his appreciation for the collaborative environment at UToledo, which has fueled his growth as both an educator and researcher.
Michael Rees
Rees, who focuses on kidney transplants and related research, has been at UToledo since 1999. He has contributed significantly to the field, publishing over 100 works and receiving numerous grants. Rees feels grateful for the support he has received throughout his career and emphasizes that transplantation is a collaborative effort requiring teamwork.
Distinguished University Lecturer
The title of Distinguished University Lecturer goes to Michael A. Kistner, a senior lecturer in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Kistner has been with the university since 1997 and received the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2022. He is dedicated to sharing cultural experiences with students, especially through study abroad programs in Toledo, Spain. He expressed his deep appreciation for the students and faculty who have supported him over the years.
