INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta is taking the allegations against kicker Justin Tucker seriously. He’s concerned but wants to wait for the NFL’s investigation to conclude before making any decisions about Tucker’s future with the team.
“The allegations are serious and worrying,” DeCosta mentioned at the NFL scouting combine. He emphasized the importance of gathering all the facts before acting. “We’re fortunate that the league is investigating. We will be patient for more information.”
According to The Baltimore Banner, 16 massage therapists from various local spas have accused Tucker of inappropriate behavior. The NFL has already talked to at least three of these women, and DeCosta has met with league investigators as well.
Tucker has publicly denied the allegations on social media, calling them “unequivocally false.” DeCosta learned about these accusations before a media report was set to go live and had a conversation with Tucker, but he didn’t share any details from that discussion.
While the Ravens have a strict policy against inappropriate behavior, DeCosta was careful not to outline how this applies to Tucker’s situation. He noted that the team evaluates each case on its own merits. Coach John Harbaugh mirrored this approach, stating that they need to understand the situation better before taking action. “You can’t act without understanding,” he said. “We need to look at all the facts.”
Tucker has had a remarkable 13-year career with the Ravens, becoming one of the most reliable kickers in NFL history. He’s ranked 16th overall in career points scored with 1,775 and holds the highest career field-goal percentage at 89.1%. Additionally, he’s known for his impressive 66-yard field goal that won a game against Detroit in 2021.
Despite Tucker’s solid track record, the Ravens are still considering their options for a kicker, regardless of the outcome of his case. DeCosta indicated that the special teams coaches would scout kickers in preparation for the draft. Harbaugh acknowledged the need to evaluate all positions, stating, “Nobody goes forever.”
