EL PASO, Texas — The Eastlake community gathered for a Thanksgiving Food Drive and Mini Health Fair hosted by the new Upper Valley Urgent Care Clinic and Upper Valley Wellness Clinic. The event, held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, was a great success, providing 100 families with complete Thanksgiving dinner packages.
Each package, worth $50, included all the essentials for a festive meal: a turkey or ham, green bean casserole, corn, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, gravy, and a pumpkin pie.
Alongside the food distribution, attendees could participate in a mini health fair that featured free glucose tests and blood pressure checks. Local partners set up booths, offering refreshments and family-friendly activities, creating a lively atmosphere.
Dr. Alorgbey from Upper Valley expressed pride in supporting the community, stating, “We aimed to foster wellness and connection in our growing Eastlake community.”
Giving back during the holidays is crucial. According to a recent survey by the Feeding America network, 42 million people in the U.S. may experience food insecurity this year. Events like this not only provide meals but also cultivate community spirit during challenging times.
Local initiatives like the Thanksgiving Food Drive are vital as they connect services, promote health, and bring people together. It reflects a growing trend: communities are increasingly collaborating to support their members, especially during the holidays when the need is most evident.
